Driving & planning tips
Prefer local SP and SR roads for views; average speeds are lower but safer. Watch for narrow lanes in hill towns and limited traffic zones (ZTL) in historic centers.
Use official parking lots; avoid entering ZTL without permit. Early mornings and late afternoons are best for finding spaces near attractions.
Fill up before long inland stretches — some rural stations close mid-day. Keep cash and card; many small vendors accept only one or the other.
